Enabling & Building Packages

The new 80,000sqm distribution centre, equivalent to 20 football pitches was built under the Management structure of SBH Ltd with constructional site and project management by Walker Construction Services Ltd.

Walker Construction Services Ltd were also appointed to provide the enabling package required to service a 15 week contract operating 12hours a day, 7 days a week, including complete welfare facilities, security fencing & compounds, along with health & safety audits and monitoring. As part of the enabling package, general & specialist labour were sourced and supplied as required. In addition, multiple builders work was completed as infrastructure for specialist contractors as well as standalone construction. These included in excess of 2 miles of underground electrical & data ducting, reinforced concrete bases & walkways, LPG blast walls, yard slab protection and general ground works.

Task specific satellite offices were constructed at multiple locations within the unit from fair faced block work with timber roofing & finished appropriate to their usage, from equipment storage & allocation to product testing & evaluation. A general purpose office, including kitchenette and toilet facilities was constructed for administration within the recycling centre, requiring structural steel due to its size and proportion of glazing sections incorporated to achieve 50% greater natural lighting to meet the overall buildings BREEAM & EPC excellence rating.

This project has been awarded with Deal of the Year (over 50,000 sq ft) at the Industrial Agents Society annual awards.
